Pruthvi Krishna
Nature inspires me, I feel alive when I am out with the wind on my
face, or even when I look out of my window and see how wonderful things
look.
Natural elements add subtlety, finesse and totality to my works. My brush strokes tread a path of their own. I am not a stickler to a particular form or pattern. As Jackson Pollock said ‘The painting has a life of its own’.
I am a habitual experimenter, texture and media are my playgrounds. They add another dimension to my works.
Having grown up in urban India has enhanced my perspective towards
life. The stark contrast between the ‘haves ‘and the ‘have nots’ is
pronounced in India. As an artist, I try to portray the colors, the
pathos, the hope and faith of fellow Indians in my works.
Coming
to the United States has rendered my newer works to draw inspiration
from new surroundings. Most of my paintings are Acrylic on canvas or
Dry pastels on paper, which are not a novelty in themselves, but of
late I am very excited with the way I have tinkered with my technique.
As I am fond of textures I do not inhibit myself to the use of just
tools, I some times use my indexes and hands as well. In my short stay
thus far, what was initially an inhabiting factor, the monotony of
texture, has actually led me to experiment with techniques. A Fine Arts Graduate from CKP [Sanskrit acronym for Academy of Arts] - Bangalore University, India, I have been painting professionally for over five years. I have exhibited solo at Alliance Francaise de Bangalore, CKP and in group shows in Bangalore, India and in Chicago, IL.
My other interests include different forms of traditional Southern
Indian art like Tanjore and Mysore painting. I also work with
Terracotta and Batik.
